ECM Codes

How to check the codes: This is real simple, but doesn't work on cars equipped with OBD II or newer ODB I cars that require a scantool..You just have to jump the A & B terminals on the ALCL. (Located under the dashboard, below the instrument panel and to the left of the center console.) The A & B terminals are the two on the top right, on the top row. You can use a small piece of wire or a paper clip would work too. Put the ignition to the ON position (engine NOT running) and the car will enter diagnostic mode and begin showing codes. A code 12 will start and that is normal. Each code is flashed three times by the service engine soon/check engine light. Example: A code 12 is one flash (1), followed by a brief pause, then two flashes (2).
