Painting The Filler Panels
(Before)
(After - That pic just plain sucks, I'll get a better one up soon.)
As before, do at your own risk. The newer style Berettas come stock with blacked out/dark filler panels. A lot of times the older ones tend to get moisture inside and just look stupid. For those of you with the older style that want to "upgrade" or stop looking at the moisture you can either buy the darker ones new (very expensive..) or you can take some time and paint your existing ones. (very inexpensive..) Go out and buy a can of gloss black spray paint. Now There's two ways to go about painting them.
1. Take off the panels. (Bottom Panel: Undo all 12 wingnuts in the trunk. Two in the middle and 4 on each side. Doing this you take off the whole tail light structure. You don't have to unhook the taillights themselves, once the wingnuts are off you can just set them on the bumper and pull the bottom panel out. Note: The bottom panel will also have that small trim piece attached to it. Just use masking tape over that if you don't want to disconnect it. Top Panel: There's 4 nuts on the trunk lid that you must remove and then it pulls off.) Sand your existing panels down. Clean them off. Spray them with the black. Let dry according to instructions on the paint can. You may need to do another coat or so do depending on how good the first comes out. Then your gonna want to apply some coats of clear coat. You can buy a can from the same place you bought the black.
2. In my experience, this method is not only easier, but much faster, cheaper, and less time consuming than the first. Take the panels off, wipe them down with a rag to get any dirt off. Don't sand or anything. Just spray a nice thick coat of gloss black paint on and let it dry good. That's it! Although the first may be the more "proper" way, I found that the end product came out much better and a lot shinier than the first. I did them both on the same day and both are holding up the same no problem. Even if you don't like the results, you can always go back and sand them down and try method 1.
Last step, you might wanna go over the "BERETTA" logo in between the panels with a different color so it stands out. Using the touch up paint so that it matches your car will look good.
