Clear Sidemarker Lenses

Clear sidemarker lenses can be found at http://www.procarparts.com. They also have clear front lenses for the GTZ/Z26 models as well..They usually have a couple sets of these up on ebay so check there and save yourself a couple bucks off the website price..

If you don't feel like buying them, you could always try and make your own. I have done this, and since posting this a lot of others have done the same. I will be describing my method below which should help you to get started. Be sure to check out the pics first and make sure its something you want before you give it a try.

Ok, here's what I did. From the Home Depot, I bought a small sheet of plexiglass and a half sheet of clear styrene lighting panel (you know, those panels over lights on ceilings?). I took out the original lense and tried to trace it onto both the best I could. Then I used a table saw to cut both out. You can use whatever you want to cut them, but try and get everything nice and straight. (Note: Be very CAREFUL and take your time when cutting them, especially if using a razor blade. It's real easy to slip and cut yourself.) The clear lighting panel is really brittle so it might take you a few tries. Once you have the two pieces and they fit in there good, you drill the hole. I put the pieces on the car and marked the hole that way to make sure it would line up. Next was a way to mount the light. I just used a small piece of double sided tape to attach the bulb holder to the inside of the bumper just below the opening so that the bulb itself sat centered behind the lense. Last just screw the pieces on and your set.

Are these legal? Probably not.
Will they pass inspection? Yeah right, keep your old ones handy.
Do they keep out water? Doubtful, but it shouldn't be a problem.
Do they look as good as real ones? Nope, but what do you expect from homemade clears that cost approx $5.

*Tips*

- Do the plexiglass first and get a nice fit. Then, use the plexiglass to make a trace onto the lighting panel.

- You may want to try and glue the edges of the pieces together. I found out the hard way when I lost the outer piece while driving around.

- A small piece of double sided tape will work well to hold the other end of the lenses in. (The side without the screw.)

- They will only look as good as the amount of effort you put into them. Take your time.

- The color bulb you put it will be seen. I have blue bulbs in and they are VERY blue. Probably quite illegal too, so do at your own risk.
